Had a nice forest walk with the little one today, so I packed some snacks and my new toy: the Ganesha Stove.

It's a small and foldable woodstove for camping that I supported on #Kickstarter and received yesterday.

Worked great!

Easy to set up, easy to light, easy to keep burning and once done it uses up the remaining fuel quite efficiently and since it's made from super thin titanium it cools very quick.

Loved it!

Getting stuck in the most beautiful place - videos.trom.tf/w/bxTbZkK2TYaUY…

Masatrigo looks like a volcano, but it is just a beautifully shaped hill with a roundabout around it. It looks so cool from afar, and the entire area is actually super beautiful. But it has been raining in Spain for many weeks and the soil/grass was very wet. We parked in a not so very steep place, but it was enough to get us totally stuck.

Luckily a very nice old man came to our rescue.

Camp of No Hope / Il Campo di Nessun Speranza for #spookysaturday episode 7

You finally get to sit down with your friends after setting up the campsite. You haven't been camping in a while, but it's your friend's birthday so you are happy to be there, even if the weather isn't the best.
With the tents up and the fire crackling, you all gather around it and start talking and having fun. Couple of hours and some drinks and snacks go by, then the campfire stories start. A deranged serial killer that picks off groups one by one. A faceless demon that takes and tortures lost souls. A deranged hermit responsible for all the missing people around this area. A ghost looking for a new body to inhabit. The usual stuff.
After a while, you get into your tent and fall asleep. At some point you wake up, it's dark and you're cold. You remember you have an extra jumper in your car and it's not too far away.
You get your torch and start walking ti it. A few minutes go by. Huh, you don't remember this tree being here… Was the path always so long? Time goes by and you start to panic. You can't find your way to the car. You can't find your way back to the campsite.
In the distance, down a path, you see a light. Finally! One of your friend's is here! They're going to get a good laugh out of this.
"It's about time! I feel like I've been circling this place for hours."
No response.
"Okay, very funny. Now stop – how do we get back?"
No response again. Oh, what if this is one of the locals? You walk closer.
"Hello, sorry, I'm a little bit lost."
You can finally make out a figure holding a lantern. It's coming closer.
Oh God. The campfire story was true.

And so I'm off. Early bus to the train station then a train to a couple of towns over. From there two days of calm, relaxation and meditation as I hike to a leader/trainer meeting at the local Friskis&Svettis (non-profit gym).

The gods know I need this...

This last weekend while backpack camping, we came up with a new merit badge for our scout group. The pancake badge. It's just a circular beige patch. No stitching or design on it. Make it real vague.

We also came up with a Spam badge. Which is a square patch in an upsetting pink, and some small dots for the meat pattern.

We have real deep conversations on these trips.

A week and a half in and my "rubber tramp" setup is working well. I'm cooking meals pretty much like I cook at home. I'm very comfortable sleeping in the back of my truck. Cheap living while I look for a small lot to buy in Bluff, Utah! Oh, and I might add, the 200 watts of solar charges up my 1200W 614Wh Percon E600 in only a couple of hours.

My partner took me out camping for the weekend. The cape is such a strange place. You can't throw a rock without smashing some potter's lively-hood, and I simultaneously deeply love a place that is so full of artisans, and also a bit hopeless, as they are all old and grey, and who will be able to afford to carry their torch when they pass?

In any case, three days with no news, podcasts, or internet, and I am having a hard time getting caught back up with the gish gallop of horrors that is day-to-day life now.

But below is a photo of our tent, which hysterically just barely fit my actual, full bed setup, and ably weathered a hell of a storm, and our tea set-up for the weekend.

I got an #battery powered #offgrid #camping #cooking set that could work on solar energy :3 it takes about 3-5% battery to bake an egg at full power (it should sustain full power for about 30 minutes).

Battery can be had for ~100-180€ (depending on source) and the induction cooker for about 30-40€, an optional matching solar panel costs about 50-100€
