But chances are you haven’t heard about it.

The Food and Drug Administration indicated in February that it had closed the investigation without publicly detailing what had happened — or which companies were responsible for growing and processing the contaminated lettuce."

The bacterium Escherischia coli has an affinity for microplastic particles (polyethylene, polystyrene, and polypropylene) and forms biofilms that have a higher resistance to multiple antimicrobial compounds than biofilms formed on other substances such as glass. Microplastics may thereby accelerate the growth of, and human exposure to, antimicrobial-resistant pathogens.

These are the 20 most-studied #bacteria — majority ignored
Model microbes such as Escherichia coli hog scientists’ attention, leaving most known bacteria with few publications devoted to them.
Study of over 43,000 bacterial species found #Ecoli dominates with 21% of all publications, followed by human pathogens like #Staphylococcus aureus. Microbes crucial for human health and Earth's ecosystems remain largely unexplored, Univ of Michigan biologist Paul Jensen reported.
