Designed by the renowned architect Marcel Breuer, this Benedictine abbey stands as a striking example of mid-century modern design, blending geometric boldness with sacred tradition. One of the most awe-inspiring features of the abbey is its massive stained glass window, an intricate composition of color and light that dominates the façade. The honeycomb-like pattern of glass panels floods the interior with a radiant glow, transforming the worship space into an ever-changing canvas of spiritual reflection. Each pane is carefully arranged to evoke themes of faith, community, and divine presence, embodying the Benedictine values that define Saint John's University. This visit was not only an architectural experience but also a moment of deeper appreciation for the intersection of faith, art, and innovation.
