Arrgh. Now I'm worrying because I know several are nonbinary but don't know if they identify as *trans* nonbinary.

I don't know many trans authors, but I do remind people that being a furry is an inherently trans stance.

That being said, my own works involve people being transformed, typically without warning or consent, into anthropomorphic and non-anthropomorphic intelligent animals. The non-consensual aspect of their transformation is in recognition that we don't choose to be who and what we are, it's part of what makes us who we are to begin with and we're now expressing it openly. It's more of a physical and spiritual rebirth, becoming a part of a more accepting and supportive community, similar to becoming a furry. Sadly, it is complete with the being disowned, and often attacked or killed, by their unsupportive birth families. Found family > Birth Family. The Blood of the Covenant is thicker than the Water of the Womb.

Read in the light of queerness as a coming out and becoming who you truly are, living an authentic life instead of what everyone around you imposes on you, I see it as being a very good representation of transness and of queerness in general.

However out (or not) you are, however visible (or not), wherever on the spectrum you find yourself, whether you've changed your name or not. I hope you are and can stay safe, or can find safe spaces, with friends, family, loved ones, and communities you can trust and who will stand up for you when needed.
