Evolution of Home Assistant:
- Runs on Raspberry Pi, controls a single WiFi light switch
- Controls a dozen switches and plugs
- Automations using Phone locations and time of day
- AddOns! Mosquitto, AdGuard Home and MotionEye/Frigate get installed
- Migrates to beefier server
- Voice and Whisper addons get installed
- Zigbee takes over for switches and plugs
- What's next?
Updated zigbee2mqtt this morning, now all my devices show as "OFFLINE" in the z2m dashboard but still react to switches in the HomeAssistant dashboard.
Fun. Not.
I had the urge to nerd around a bit, and scratched it by putting #zigbee2mqtt running on #microshift #kubernetes at home. It controls zigbee devices at home via #HomeAssistant
The hard part was to understand how to get access to usb device. It was one liner after all, easy after you know it! Hint: Use generic device plugin. Here is the reference, if someone searches the same one day.
Phuk, this tuya zigbee led dimmer seems to require tuya controller? I don't see how to get it to pairing mode. Any idea?
Weekend nerding activity was to install lighting dimmers. It sure was hard to find zigbee zevice which works without neutral wire. Plastics required some work to make them fit. Great to have home-automated controls which also works manually!
As downside these don't seem to report states nor does z2m recognize them.
Has someone figured out the scc magick to allow container in OpenShift/Microshift to get access to /dev/ttyACM0 usb device? As non root user.
Sniffing Zigbee traffic sounds complicated? In my latest guide, I show how to capture and analyze Zigbee communication using Wireshark, ember-zli, and an EFR32-based sniffer.
Learn how to decrypt packets, explore ZCL commands, and troubleshoot issues in your ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT network with confidence.
Ideal for Home Assistant power users & tinkerers!

Oh, nach dem Update auf das aktuellste #HomeAssistant will mein #Zigbee2MQTT nicht mehr zigbee machen
Erstmal den kompletten Pi durch booten...
So, my #zigbee2mqtt just randomly stopped working and apparently the solution it to reflash the ZigBee Stick, which requires hardware that I do not have. And until I do this, all my stuff is borked. Cool cool. It is indeed true: if you have #HomeAssistant you have a new hobby, if you want it or not.
@Pando Alle Sensoren, Steuerungen etc sind vollständig lokal. Ohne externe Cloud.
@sarahdal
Your are talking about battery powered devices ? Some of these are well known for this behavior, look up your devices on the #zigbee2mqtt database.
Your can also place a net powered device near the dropping out devices.
@viper539 The devices were paired fine (and also worked previously to the upgrade).
I couldn't get any replies on my issues upstream, but it turns out that they magically started working again with the next #zigbee2mqtt update a few weeks later (though there was nothing in the changelog that appeared related to the problems).
Ah well At least it's all back online now.
Me: "I no longer can be bothered to debug that #dresdenelektronik zigbee issue, I'm going to replace them with a Hue Centris 2, that will surely just work"
And work it does, yet #zigbee2mqtt lists the device as "unsupported"
Ah well, that should be easy to fix.
Finally done it, several months after v2.0 was released. Let's restart the container...
