Trump and his new big tech autocracy: Trump, Musk & Co are trying to dismantle the state at high speed. A culture war has broken out. Is democracy in danger?

How dangerous is this and what can Europe do to counter it? Will the EU's democratic rules stand up to the superiority of US big tech?

R in Maine: Connecting Ecologists, Medical Researchers, and Data Scientists

Donald Szlosek, the MaineR Users Group organizer, recently spoke with the R Consortium about the group’s transition from a city-based meetup to a statewide community and its efforts to engage a diverse audience. I used to love using LocalWP to build websites locally, but now I'm in need of a replacement. Over the past few years, LocalWP has become much more difficult to get running properly on Linux. You can install it on Debian-based and Fedora machines, but you have to fix dependency issues. Fixing the issues isn't difficult but if you're new to LocalWP or new to Linux, you would have no idea how to accomplish this. And Local won't even install on openSUSE, no matter how much you try (I've tried a lot). I posted about these issues in the LocalWP forum and one of the developers told me that Windows and Mac are much more important to them right now and they just don't have the time to fix the Linux issues. When I asked if I could build a Flatpak, Snap or Appimage, they told me that the software is proprietary and they will have to be the ones to do this....When they have time.

If you're not going to support Linux, or allow someone in the community to work on a fix, then I'm not going to use your software. Period.

Oh, how long could changing one line of code possibly take? A minute? Maybe ten? Surely not over six hours! 😇

For context, this line caused a bug when using the inline toolbar in a nested (multi-column) editor. That’s because Editor.js isn’t really designed with nested instances in mind and which is why we have a fork with a couple of small changes like this.

The latest proprietary #VSCode extension that no longer works in non-Microsoft builds of the MIT licensed VS Code source code appears to be C and C++ support.

Your regular reminder: every day more of VSCode functionality is proprietary, and increasingly #FOSS hostile.
