In the middle of the city’s ‘Red Light District’ stands the “Oude Kerk”, the city’s oldest building, founded in 1️⃣3️⃣0️⃣6️⃣. Its vast wooden ceiling, gives the Gothic interior a unique atmosphere. 🧖‍♀️🕯️

The church shifted from Catholic to Protestant after the 1️⃣5️⃣7️⃣8️⃣ Reformation. Many locals were buried here, including some prominent figures, like Saskia van Uylenburgh, Rembrandt’s wife. 🪦☠️ 🎨

Now a cultural venue, it hosts exhibitions, concerts & art. Though no longer used for services, its historic soul remains alive at the Oudekerksplein. ⛪️

I was doing a bike ride with some friends from Buck's Landing, near China Camp, and Rob Jackson was telling me about the bricks in the ground.

He said that the bricks were discards that were not good enough to sell, that the whole area is full of them, several levels deep. He said they were made around the corner in a "slug pond," and then loaded on boats and fired 'around the way at McNear's.' I didn't know about that, so I did some research.

Custom Brick Boys

The process of getting this business going will be a slow one, but I wanted to start by showing you guys that I do custom Lego models of your home, business, or really any commission we can agree on. This is the outside of a home I designed, including the entire yard, front and back. The whole thing is a few hundred bricks in each direction, and contains more than 30 unique colors!

The #pyramides is a complex building that consists of two triangle #towers on the north of the Marcanti-eiland, a triangle area surrounded with two canals (westerlijke and oosterlijke Marktkanaal) and the busy street of Jan van Galenstraat, just under the national food market. The two towers, completed in 2007, are house for 82 flats and a kindergarten. The architect Sjoerd Soeters designed these towers, whose steps remind the dutch #houses of the 17th century. #Amsterdam #West #architecture #bricks #passionbriques

Between two closed doors… This is Martelaren van Gorcumkerk, a massive #church in east #Amsterdam. As many catholic churches it is decorated inside and outside. On the tympanum the traditionalist architect Alexander Kropholler, put some #byzantine pictures. The church is dedicated to the Martyrs of Gorkum, 19 catholics from Groningen who were tortured by Calvinists and hanged during the war of religions. #architecture #bricks #biketour #history #passionbriques 🧱 #religion
