The trend is also evident in other areas, notably a 2023 ruling that found that #FreeSpeech protections shield some #businesses from having to provide services to #SameSex couples (the case involving a would-be Colorado wedding website designer).

“Opposition Leader #PeterDutton failed to declare for two years his #interest in a #FamilyTrust that operated lucrative #ChildcareBusinesses when he was a #CabinetMinister, a #FourCorners #investigation has found.

Documents obtained by Four Corners and ABC Investigations show that while Mr Dutton's register of interests disclosed his wife #Kirilly's interests in childcare operations at the time, he did not declare between 2014 and 2016 that he was a beneficiary of the #RHTFamilyTrust that owned the businesses, as required by parliamentary rules.

The investigation also analysed more than 20 years of property records tied up in complicated and opaque trust structures and found that the Dutton family, with Peter Dutton's father #BruceDutton, made almost $15 million in profit from #buying and #selling private childcare #businesses as well as dozens of #residential #property deals.”

Remember the quote about not listening to the ABC? The Family Trust issue is a measure of #character according to Judge #MargaretWhite.

#Congress has not delegated any such #power,” the suit says. “The statute the President invokes—the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (‘#IEEPA’) — does not authorize the President to unilaterally issue across-the-board worldwide tariffs.”
The Liberty Justice Center, which is representing the owner-operated companies, said #Trump’s new #tariffs of at least 10% on imports from most countries & higher rates for scores of other nations are devastating small #businesses across the country.

#US #businesses sue to block #Trump #tariffs say #trade #deficits aren’t an “emergency” he is just declaring it one to sidestep #Congress.

[We aren’t at war either but he invoked the AEA for the same reason]

The lawsuit in the U.S. Court of #InternationalTrade alleges that Trump has illegally usurped Congress’ #power to levy tariffs.

The suit said Trump’s claim that #TradeDeficits with other countries constitute an #emergency is baseless.
